McLean, VA--On Friday November 4, 2005 a group of students from George Mason University was allowed to visit our headquarters in McLean, VA to observe communication behaviors in the corporate work environment for a project they were required to do for class. Ecompex welcomed the students with open arms as they strived to learn more about the corporate working environment. The visit began with a meet and greet including explanation of our security rules and signing of a non-disclosure and confidentiality agreement, followed by an interview session with our Communications Manager Jesse Lake. The group asked Mr. Lake questions involving the communication processes concerning both internal communications and external communications within a corporate setting with such topics as communication challenges, effectiveness, technologies, and importance.
After the interview, our Project Manager Mark Franklin led the group on a secure tour of our facility. During the tour the group was able to meet our other exceptional team members and see how their positions fit within the communication process of the company. After the tour was complete the group split into two groups and observed the communication behaviors of both our Communications Manager and Project Manager to view how much communication goes on during daily work tasks. After the observation period was over, there was a question and answer period where the students could ask any last questions they had.
“I believe the visit to our facility was a good experience for the class. I was impressed with the questions they asked me during the interview. I could tell they really did some research on Ecompex before they arrived. They were very prepared and I know they learned a lot.” Said Jesse Lake.
Their group project is due at the end of the semester in December when they will have to turn in a number of papers and carry out a presentation describing what they learned during their visit to Ecompex.
We were glad to spend some time to help the students with their project to learn about corporate communication processes and help them prepare for their adventure out of college and into the corporate world.
